Local Rules (As of March 2026)

1. Out of Bounds (Rule 18.2)

A ball is out of bounds if it lies:

a) Beyond any fence, wall, hedge or line of white posts bounding holes 1 to 18 (with the exception that the out of bounds posts bordering the left of the 4th and 6th hole apply only to that hole).

b) White stakes and the ditch define the out of bounds bordering the left of the 4th fairway (i.e., a ball in the ditch while playing the 4th is out of bounds). The line of out of bounds reaches only to the burn.

c) White stakes define the out of bounds bordering the left of the 6th fairway  White stakes define the out of bounds bordering the right of the trees on the right of the 6th fairway (i.e., a ball that is beyond the line of sight between 2 adjacent white stakes is out of bounds). The line out of bounds starts at the front of the tee and reaches only to the burn.

2. Yellow Penalty Area (Rule 17)

The burn crossing the 3rd, 4th and 5th holes and behind the 6th green and crossing the 7th, 8th and 9th holes as indicated by yellow lines and/or stakes.

The ball is defined as being in the penalty area when it is in the water of the burn. The banks of the burn are not in the penalty area.

3. Red Penalty Area (Rule 17)

The burn to the right of the 2nd, right and behind the 6th hole and the drainage ditches to the right of the 2nd, 3rd and between the 6th and 8th holes, as indicated by red lines and/or stakes.

4. Free Relief from Immovable Obstructions (Rule 16)

a) All fence supports and steps.

b) While playing the 5th hole, the out of bounds posts and the ditch on the left of the 4th hole are to be treated as immovable obstructions.

c) All blue 150 yd. markers. All red 100 yd. markers.

d) All bridges on the course.

e) Young trees that are identified as less than 1 club length in height.

f) Tree stakes and protectors.

5. Roads and Paths

For health and safety reasons, all players must take relief from paths on the course under Rule 16.1f with no penalty.

6. Free Relief from Abnormal Course Conditions (Rule 16)

a) Any area lined by white paint.

b) Any area designated as ground under repair.

c) Deep depressions made by tractors or green keeping equipment.

d) A ball coming to rest within one club length of any out-crop of rock.

e) Any area bounded by blue stakes will be treated as ground under repair.

 

7. Course Played as It Is Found (Rule 8.1a)

a) The internal walls crossing the 17th and 18th holes.

b) The artificially surfaced area to the left of the 6th fairway.

Penalty for Breach of a Local Rule

Match play - Loss of hole;  Stroke play - Two strokes

Additional Notes

  • Greens 1 and 4 are to be treated as a double green. Flag denoting the 1st hole is plain and the 4th is chequered.
  • Courtesy holes: Hole 7 is to be treated as a courtesy hole and instruction signs are in place at the tee. Holes 6 and 8 are treated as courtesy holes. Players must not tee off on the 6th while players are on the 8th green and players on the 8th must not enter the green while players are on the 6th tee.
