The 23rd McDonald Pro Am took place on Friday 29th July. The event was sponsored by Tennents Breweries and 35 teams took part accompanied by some of the top Scottish Tartan Tour professionals including three representing McDonald (Sandy Aird Jnr, Ross Cameron and Michele Thomson).
The team event was closely fought with 4 teams finishing on the same score 126 (-14). The winners, by virtue of a better inward half. were local company Energy Resource Partnership represented by Neil Birnie (Jnr), Ryan Birnie and dad Neil Birnie (Snr) accompanied by professional Graham Fox from Rowallan Castle. Local Club side, the McDonald Seniors (Bill Cooper, Alan McKenzie, Ron Clark and professional Andrew Cooper from Newmachar) were runners up. Three Kings were third and represented by McDonald members Arthur Duncan, Charlie Singer and Mathew Duncan from Murcar with Newburgh professional Ian Bratton.
Top professional was Stephen Gray from Hayston who shot a terrific 63 (-7) to win by 4 shots ahead of Chris Doak. Our own Ross Cameron was third with a 69 (-1).
