We now have confirmation that the CADs season will begin with the match at Alford on 4th May. For those who haven't played in the CADs series before let me fill in a few details. We play over 13 different courses in the months between May and September, including the match played here in Ellon. The cost is £9 per game and is payable on the day to whichever golf club is hosting the match. The matches are all Stableford competitions and this year will be subject to the World Handicapping System - scored via the Scottish golf app.. (Don't worry if you have no experience of this new scoring  - there will be plenty of help available).

Each club is allowed a maximum of 11 players on 12 of the courses played, the exceptions being Dunecht and Tarland which are 9 hole courses. Because of having to play those courses twice to make up the 18 holes we have to reduce the numbers to 7 for those matches.

To enter your name for each match, or to ask for further information please contact Bill Haining by text (SMS message) or email (07885 811230 or It may be that as covid19 restrictions ease off we may be allowed to place sign up sheets for each match on our notice board in the back corridor of the clubhouse, but until then we need to use the above contact to make up team lists. Once the team has been formed, I will send an email round the players who expressed their willingness to play. On occasion we have the luxury of having more than 11 players sign up and therefore be able to select players for the team, but we can also ask the hosting club for extra spaces to try and accommodate everyone who wishes to play. These players are known as 'Z' players and as they are not playing for the club team they will be entitled to retain any winnings from that match. The team players winnings come to the club. At the end of the season there is a club prize for the leading points scorer.

This year, apart from the normal information like name, phone number and handicap we also require to know each individual player's CDH ID number (Sandra will be able to help with this). All of this information is required before the hosting club can set up and manage every player's scores for the match. Each score counts for handicap in the WHS system.

I hope you don't find this information too daunting - in the years I have played in the CADs I have found the chance to play 12 other lovely courses around the shire a real pleasure. Not only for the golfing pleasure, but also for the company.

The senior male members (aged 55 or over) participate in the Central Aberdeenshire District Senior (CADS) competitions.  The fixtures are arranged at each club May- September.  Clubs involved are : Alford, Dunecht, Ellon, Huntly, Insch, Inverurie, Kemnay, Kintore, Newmachar, Oldmeldrum, Peterculter, Portlethen, Tarland & Westhill.

Teams consist of 11 qualified players at most clubs with the exception of Dunecht which allows a maximum of 7 and Tarland which allows a maximum of 9.  Players in excess of the clubs ‘quota’ are known as Z players & their tee times are at the discretion of the host club.

Individuals do not need to join the CADS, the club is a member and if you wish to play at one of the venues you add your name and CDH Number to the list on the Seniors Noticeboard and pay the entry fee at the venue.

From 2020 the CADs committee have instituted a change concerning handicaps.  In previous years each players scores only affected CADs, however, this year all scores will be put on the computer and individual handicaps affected after each CADs match. In order for this to happen all players will need to submit their Scottish Golf CDH personal number when they put their names up to play any/every CADs match. This includes Z players.

CDH Number to find your number, you should all have a Scottish Golf Membership Card (see below) these were issued in 2014. If you can't find your card and don't know your number contact the office.
