Given the impact of the Coronavirus restrictions over the past ten months which resulted in the Clubhouse facilities being out of use due to closures for extended periods, this report confines itself to the more positive news of the refurbishment of the two bars within the Clubhouse.
It has been for the past couple of years Council’s intention to refurbish the Lounge bar and the Clubhouse in general. To assist in this undertaking, an appeal was issued to members for donations to go towards funding this project. Members were very generous in their contributions and shortly thereafter contractors were approached to provide estimates for the redecoration phase. After receiving one estimate, the Club Administrator and I met with club member Steven Reaper who advised that he might be able to undertake some of the work to reduce to re-decoration costs. After surveying the work necessary, Steven unbelievably indicated that he would do the entire re-decoration of the Lounge free of charge. A colour scheme was chosen, and this work was very quickly completed to a high standard.
In parallel with the quotes for decoration, Frasers of Ellon (a regular sponsor of the golf club) were approached regarding the flooring aspect. A carpet was chosen in a McDonald tartan in keeping with the Club’s benefactor Sir James McDonald, and materials were being chosen to relay the dance floor. Club member Scott Sim approached the office, gave independent guidance on suitable flooring, offered to lay the dance floor free of charge, and further offered to secure the necessary materials for the Club at a significantly reduced rate. His offer was gratefully accepted and working together with staff from Frasers, the new dance floor and new carpet were fitted on consecutive days in early November 2020.
Having seen how his professional workmanship had lifted the appearance of the Lounge bar, Steven Reaper then re-decorated the entrance lobby and front corridor leading from the front entrance door to the trophy cabinet without charge.
The office was also approached around the same time by several Club members regarding the re-decoration of Ward 19. A small group of our young adult members began extensive work in Ward 19 and very recently this refurbishment project has also been completed. Ward 19 now has custom built wraparound seating in one corner, a new carpet, the television has been relocated to the inner wall and the existing bar counter was stripped back to bare wood and re-varnished. Another two members came forward with the offer of new window blinds for Ward 19, these will to be fitted to complete this project.
When we are finally allowed to re-open the Clubhouse, we will have two fully refurbished bars to welcome you back.
We hope to be able this year, subject to funds, to re-decorate and re-carpet the rear corridor area.
