LADIES AGM REPORT

2019 Season

The Beetle Drive held on Tuesday 5th March proved successful with 54 ladies coming along this included both Cruden Bay and Oldmeldrum ladies joining us for a fun evening. We managed to raise £422 for club funds, thank you to all the ladies who supported the event.

At our Opening Night on the 2nd April Sandy again organised a Fashion Night. Many thanks to Sandy for organising and providing the prosecco and strawberries, much appreciated.

For our annual weekend away, we returned to Drumoig GC on the 6th & 7th April. On arrival it was raining heavily and the 18th green, visible from the clubhouse, was flooding, but when our tee time arrived the rain stopped, and we were able to play on Saturday and Sunday. We had a great weekend, and many thanks to Amanda Farquhar for organising this.

The annual Coffee Morning was held on Saturday the 13th April, this proved a great success with £408.50 raised for club funds. Our thanks go to all that came along and supported the ladies’ section. Thanks also must go to the Ythan Bakery, our stall holders, to Sandra for sending out reminders and her support on the day and to all those who donated raffle prizes.

The Ruby Milne Spring Tournament was held on the 5th May, the competition winners were Scratch Fiona Campbell, Silver Division Elaine McIntosh and Bronze Division Patty Argo.

We returned to Peterculter for our outing on the 11th May. 21 ladies attended we had a great day with the bus getting there without a scratch this year. Fiona had a fantastic round of Gross 74 winning the scratch prize, well done and thank you to her for organising.

Coronation Fours – The qualifying competition was played on the 12th May and was won by Helen Cooper and Nicola Fraser who then played in the Regional Final at Edzell Golf Club on the 22nd July, although they had a great day Nicola and Helen didn’t progress any further.

The Ironside Stableford Open was played on the 15th June, 59 ladies played with 41 Away and 18 Home players. The winners were: Silver Division: Carolyn Smith (Cruden Bay)

Bronze Division: Allison Leslie (Peterhead)

A huge thank you to Moira who sponsored the open again this year, and thanks to the Ladies Committee who helped on the day and provided the raffle prizes which raised £165.

The Championship Finals Day on 29th June saw Fiona Campbell win the McDonald Cup (on her birthday) and Alison Ross win the Margaret Morgan Trophy.

NDT Texas Scramble - This was due to be played on Saturday 20th July but due to very heavy rain we had to cancel the competition, this was disappointing as we had 57 ladies playing. We tried to reorganise for the 4th August but due to Duff House (who had 18 ladies playing) and were unable to make this date it was decided not to reschedule. We would like to thank Pat Fox for his continued support with the Ladies Section.

We organised a Fun Day for the “Get into Golf for Women” ladies (who have been taking lessons from Sandy) on Thursday 15th August. We played a 3 Club + Putter Greensomes over 7 holes on the back 9. Eight beginner ladies came along and thanks to the 8 Lady Members who helped on the evening. This was a great evening enjoyed by all, it was a good way to introduce the Beginner Ladies to our Lady Members and will hopefully encourage these ladies to continue playing golf.

The Craighall Rosebowl final was played on 25th August this was won by Fiona Campbell.

Our Stableford Final was played on 8th September the winners were Andrea Thomson in the Silver Division and Maureen Baber in the Bronze Division.

The Pro-Am was rescheduled for Friday 13th September with the format changing to a Texas Scramble. Well done to all those who played. Thanks to Helen Cooper, Joan Forbes and Alison Ross for organising the raffle and helping on the day. A big thank you to the Pro-Am committee for putting together such a successful event.

Our Medal Final was played on 14th September the winners were Shona Reid in the Silver Division and Brenda Young in the Bronze Division.

The final event of the year was the Ladies Christmas Dinner this took place on the 3rd December, 72 ladies attended, and a great night was had by all, the surplus and raffle money of £483 was given to club funds.

Team Competitions

Bennachie League - This year we finished in 7th place winning 3 matches, halving one, and losing 4. Kemnay won the Bennachie League Trophy again this year. Many thanks to Lynne Anderson and Shona Reid for organisation these team matches.

County Golf – Fiona Campbell won the ALCGA Members Cup for the best qualifying round in the County Championships at Murcar with a CSS matching gross 77. She also made it to the quarter final of the Championship match play being narrowly beaten on the 19th.

Next year the team will remain in the 2nd Division of the Golf View League.

In the Watt Duffus competition held at Inverurie on the 20th May, Ellon came 2nd in the team handicap competition with a score of 211, beaten by a better back nine by Murcar. Dot MacKinnon also finished 2nd in the individual handicap competition with a net 67 unfortunately again beaten by a better back nine.

We had 21 ladies play in the Ellon ALCGA meeting on the 28th June which was won by Nicola Fraser. Thank you to Fiona Campbell our Ellon Rep who organised the team matches and the Ellon meeting.

Robertson Cup – This year we were drawn against Inverurie (our opponents in the final last year) and after the home round we were ahead 5-3 but unfortunately the final score was Inverurie 8 ½ - Ellon 7 ½. Well done and thank you to all the ladies who played in both matches. A huge thank you to Nicola Fraser for captaining the team over the past 4 years, a great achievement to captain the team to back to back wins in 2017 and 2018.

Buchan Seniors Thank you to Andrea Thomson our Rep for organising the Ellon meeting on the 23rd August and coordinating the BLSGA throughout the year. Well done to Yvonne Carr who won the Bronze Division at Fraserburgh and Sandra Brockie who won the Bronze Division at Longside, and to all other ladies who have been successful at the home and away opens.
