The new blue jerseys and T shirts with the McDonald Golf logo with senior also included within the badge were worn by a large number of our seniors in 2018. They look extremely smart and show us in a good light to other golf clubs throughout the region.
Central Area District Seniors
Well run by A Trail and helpers throughout 2018 season. Managed to get full teams on every occasion throughout the whole Year. This was a great achievement as many of the others clubs continually fail to submit their full numbers. The CADS were held at Ellon in August which was extremely successful with a large entry from all over the North East raising over £700 which went into Ellon Golf Club coffers. We finished in the middle of the league an improvement over last season.
Many thanks again to Bob Murray in coordinating the Buchan seniors throughout .2018.
Individual champion for 2018 was Ellon golfer I. Campbell. Overall the Ellon team were runners up to Cruden Bay. Unfortunately we were knocked out in the first round of the House of Commons Cup by Inverurie, although we drew the match 6 all but got beat on count back. Buchan seniors’ day at Ellon had a great attendance with £500 put back into Ellon Golf Club funds. Good support for catering and drinks on the day.
Seniors Ythan Challenge
Annual event versus Newburgh over 2 legs. We ran out winners again by a large margin. Well done the lads.
Senior opens in 2018 (medal and stableford)
Both Competitions were well attended with great reviews about the course from many clubs in Aberdeenshire. A substantial financial gain was made which in turn was given to the club.
Seniors outing to Huntly
22 registered members attending, down on last year. Super day, catering excellent. The Ali Michie trophy was won by A Douglas. Well organised by L Milne and supported by J Gatt.
Other outings against Rosehearty, Turriff and Meldrum house again were extremely well organised by Les and his committee.
Senior AGM 2018
Well attended by 43 senior members. Seniors captain Ali Michie gave a light hearted resume of all the committee members in a poem. Bill Haining said grace before we received a fantastic Carvery laid on by Darrell and a great day was enjoyed by all. Our Monday competitions continue to be well attended. A Presentation of a single bottle of malt whisky to Ian Shaw who has been our treasurer for 17 years. Trophies and prizes presented for all senior competitions were carried out by Ali Michie and Sandra Brockie. Two new committee members have been enrolled, A D Smith and J Lawson. Finances are healthy and will now be looked after by Dave Smith our new treasurer.
