The Beetle Drive held on the 6th March proved very successful in addition to members and their guests, ladies from Cruden Bay and Oldmeldrum Golf Club attended. A great night was had by all and £334 was raised for club funds.
The weather on the 3rd April was awful and the golf had to be cancelled this did not deter from the Fashion Night that Sandy organised. We had a great night of ladies golf gear, prosecco and strawberries, thank you to Sandy for a great opening evening.
For our annual weekend away we returned to Drumoig on the 7th & 8th April. 19 ladies attended, we had a great weekend, the weather was kind to us and the course was in great condition. Many thanks to Amanda Farquhar for organising this weekend.
The annual Coffee Morning held on 14th April proved very successful again. Our thanks go to the exhibitors Karen Baber, Naomi Murray and Amy Mackenzie and to the Ythan Bakery, £427 was raised for club funds.
Well done to Alison Ross our Junior Girls Convenor who organised the Junior Fun Night on 30th April with 28 children coming along, there were members and non-members with the majority of children aged between 9 and 12. Three girls joined on the night.
The Ruby Milne Spring Tournament was held on the 6th May, the competition winners were Scratch Nicola Fraser, Silver Division Sandra Low and Bronze Division Kirsten MacCallum.
We travelled to Peterculter Golf Club on the 19th May for our annual outing. 19 ladies played we had a great day and the sun was shining, unfortunately none to the ladies featured in the prizes. Thank you to Fiona Campbell for organising the outing.
Helen Cooper and Nicola Fraser won the reorganised Coronation Fours qualifier on the 10th June and progressed to the Regional Final held at Aboyne Golf Club.
The Ladies Ironside Open was held on 16th June, 44 ladies played we had 24 visitors and 20 home players. The winners were Silver Division Lindsey McNiven (Aberdeen Ladies) and Bronze Division Eileen MacIntyre. Many thanks to Moira Ironside for sponsoring this event.
The Championship Finals Day on 30th June saw Nicola Fraser win the McDonald Cup and Lynne Anderson win the Margaret Morgan Trophy.
The ND Testing 3 person Texas Scramble took place on 21st July, 48 ladies played with 27 visitors, the winners were Nicola Fraser, Anne Bowman & Fiona Campbell. Our thanks go to Pat Fox for his continued support of the ladies section.
Get Women Into Golf evening was held on 30th July with 22 ladies coming along, well done to Sandy and all involved in organising this very successful event.
The Craighall Rosebowl final was played on 12th August this was won by Fiona Campbell.
The Pro Am proved rather wet and play was temporarily suspended, but due to the great work of Bill Shepherd and the greens staff all teams were able to finish their rounds. Despite the weather we still had a great day and well done to Dot MacKinnon, Helen Cooper & Yvonne Carr who played in the Ladies Team.
Thanks must go to Colin Grant and his committee for organising the event, and to the ladies who did a fantastic job selling raffles, organising the photographs and tables to Dot MacKinnon, Helen Cooper, Shona Reid, Valerie Campbell, Joan Forbes, Alison Ross, Helen Singer, Yvonne Carr & Fiona Campbell.
Our Stableford Final was played on 9th September the winners were Helen Cooper in the Silver Division and Amanda Farquhar in the Bronze Division.
Our Medal Final was played on 15th September the winners were Fiona Campbell in the Silver Division and Colette Penny in the Bronze Division.
The final event of the year was the Ladies Christmas Dinner this took place on the 4th December, 72 ladies attended and a great night was had by all, the surplus and raffle money of £558 was given to club funds.
Bennachie League - Ellon ladies unfortunately this year finished at the bottom of the table. Thanks to Helen Cooper and Lynne Anderson for organising both the home and away matches.
Ellon hosted the 2018 Bennachie League Annual Dinner which was held on Saturday the 3rd November with 50 ladies attending from all but one of the clubs within the league. This was a fantastic evening with guest speaker Michele Thomson and two ladies from Turriff performing an Elvis party piece, which was very funny. Thanks must also go to Helen Cooper, Sandra Brockie, Amanda Farquhar, Helen Singer and Fiona Campbell for organising a great evening.
County Golf – Fiona Campbell reached the quarter finals of the County Championships at Banchory and also secured the scratch prizes at both Ellon & Fraserburgh ALCGA meetings. In the team competitions we came 2nd in the Watt Duffus 1 shot behind the hosts Newmachar, but in the Golf View League we have been relegated to Division 2. Thanks must go to Fiona Campbell our Ellon Rep who organised the team matches and the Ellon meeting.
Robertson Cup – The final was played against Inverurie at Duff House on the 8th September where the Ellon Ladies successful retained the Robertson Cup winning 4 ½ – 3 ½. This was an amazing achievement for the section and thanks must go to the caddies and supporters who came along on the day and all our well-wishers. The previous home and away matches saw wins against Turriff and Cruden Bay.
Buchan Seniors – 47 ladies played in the Ellon meeting on the 17th August and Andrea Thomson was 1st in the Silver Division. Sandra Brockie was also 1st Bronze at Newburgh and many more of our ladies have featured in the prizes out and about during 2018. Thanks to Andrea Thomson our Ellon Rep for all her hard work.
