Junior membership unfortunately the trend is still on the down side.

The overriding concern is the lack of juniors playing medals and club competitions.

With a junior membership of 65 there should be more playing.

Medals are still poorly attended with some even being cancelled.

In the 2nd.round of the Club Championship only 6 played.

The Gary Riddell competition 2nd round had only 4 playing.

As was stated last year after the year trial of Friday medals which made no difference, we have returned to medal days on Thursday.

16th June Rotary Junior Open

Home numbers down from last year with only 8 playing, however visitors were up slightly 29 played.

1st Nathan Begg 64(22) (Murcar)

2nd Arran Clubb 67(13) (Cruden Bay)

3rd Max To 68(13) (Kemnay)

Pennant League

We had only 13 with handicaps for this year, Pennant team requires ten this was often hard to achieve but the boys always played well and enjoyed it.

Junior Captain Andrew Yule and Vice -Captain Finlay Smith have to be congratulated for pulling out all the stops to get the team motivated.

22nd April played against Murcar our team won 4 - 1.

5th May against Stonehaven we won 5 - 0.

3rd June away to Aboyne we lost 4.5 - 0.5.

Next Season 2019 with Junior membership at all clubs barring one or two are in the decline clubs are struggling to raise a team of ten. Peennant League will consist of two leagues one of eight and one of seven.

Teams will only have 6 players, two single matches and two games being four ball better ball.

30th June Club Championship Day

The two junior finalists were Cameron Gray and Andrew Yule played over 36 holes in glorious weather, the boys played exceptional golf with Andrew winning 4 and 3.

Well done boys for playing so well.

Felicity Trophy

6th July the first match was home to Cruden Bay unfrotunately we lost 7.5 to 0.5 making the 2nd leg at Cruden Bay almost impossible to win, a challenge friendly match will be played in 2019 season.

8th July North section of Off The Tee Trophy sem-final and final was held at Cruden Bay.  Ellon's semi-final against Inverallochy we won by 2 holes. We were now in the final against Cruden Bay, Cruden Bay won by 6 holes the boys were playing a Cruden Bay team at the moment that seemed to be unstoppable.

29th July Hector Dey Trophy held at Cruden Bay this year, representing Ellon Finaly Smith finishing a credible 7th the under 14 trophy Findlay Simpson finished 2nd. this was Findlay's first time playing in a competition representing the club well done.

Paul Lawrie Flag Event

5th August the Paul Lawrie Flag Event was held at the club Mike from the Paul Lawrie Foundation raised concerns regarding the number of juniors playing in the events across the region. Only 10 competed in the under 15yr stableford section, the main flag event only had 19 playing.

Mike also said he sees no quick way how to address the situation.

12th Aug. Gary Riddell Final

Lewis Watt and Jamie Seatter played in the 36 hole final, Jamie was 5 strokes up after 18 holes Lewis fought back to be all square at the 34th  going 1 stroke up at the 35th and managing to hold on to that advantage winning by 1 stroke. Both boys played first class golf well done to them.

The Spence Trophy

22nd Sept Andrew Yule playing in The Spence Trophy at Cruden Bay in the morning round scored an 82 unfortunately in the 2nd round in the afternoon he had nil return.

Lewis Watt's golf this season has been very impressive he won the Deeside Junior Open; Peterculter Open; 3rd in the North East District stroke play; won the North East U18 order of merit; North East Paul Lawrie Matchplay Champion and won the Gary Riddell. this season is off to a good start he is selected for the U18 North East District squad meeting at Murcar on the 27th February 2019 in preparation for the new season.

Well done to all the boys who played in the club competitions and the winners.

As previously stated, all the clubs within Pennant district apart from one or two are concerned with the fall in junior membership. A workshop held at Newmachar Golf Club M Keith, S Aird Jnr and M Cabel attended. This was led by Iain Evans of Scottish Golf Ltd who raised some very good ideas which we will be looking into, they also want to get in schools much earlier than ClubGolf age primary 5, other item raised by a few of the club's present stated they had formed a junior committee, Club Captain has this onboard.

Clubgolf continues to be successful under the leadership of Mike Keith and his coaches who give up their time to coach the boys & girls, hopefully some will join the club as juniors.

As I have previously stated the downward trend with juniors is not just applicable to our club this seems to be all over the district and in golf in general.

Council has this onboard and are actively looking at solutions to address this for the season 2019.

To end I would like to thank eveybody who have supported the junior sectione either by helping or sponsoring the junior medals this is very much appreciated. Aprecial thank you to Alan Kerr and Sandra Brockie for their invaluable help.
