Social Report (2017) for AGM 2018
This past year as Social Convenor has been a sad, and difficult time for me, however I know that my hubby and your Secretary would want me to carry on and do the job as best I can, and that’s what I mean to do.
The 2017 Burns Night had to be cancelled due to lack of support. No Burns night was organised for 2018 but we did host two outside Burns Nights.
Valentine’s Night again was disappointing numbers but my thanks to Darrall for providing an excellent meal.
Our Pre Pro-Am Sports dinner held at beginning of March was very successful. Over 80 members and guests attended. Two very good after dinner speakers in Campbell Elliott and Gordon Smith. Healthy profit and a good night for the Bar. Thanks to Colin Grant for organising an excellent night.
The Quiz, however on Friday, 17th March 2017, was a change of format with the Barmaids making up the questions and asking the questions. Six teams took part and it was enjoyed by all. My thanks to Vicki and Susan for organising it.
The Quiz nights in general have been poorly attended so, to take their place we have purchased a Bingo machine which will be held on the last Sunday of each month until further notice. The first one to be held on 25th February.
Mother’s Day Carvery had an excellent turnout and the Season opening night took the form of an Italian Theme night. Thanks to Darrall for providing catering.
Social Greensomes continue to be enjoyed by around 6 – 8 couples. After the golf a meal is enjoyed by the participants joined by non-golfers partners. The Greensomes start at the beginning of the season, right through to October, weather permitting.
My thanks to Shona & Kevin Reid for organising.
May 27th we held the first of the tribute night, 53 people enjoyed the excellent Blues Brothers.
On 23rd September we had a Tribute Night featuring The Twin Bees, featuring the music of the Bee Gees. This was successful night with 58 attending.
Watch this space for future tribute nights.
Coming towards the end of 2017, we had the Children’s Christmas Party. Lisa Lollipop provided the entertainment. She is excellent with the kids and I have booked her again for next year. Darrall provided excellent food for the kids.
The Christmas Party on 9th December was disappointing with 39 attending.
The Hogmanay Party was again very successful with 89 attending, thanks to Kevin for providing the fireworks. An excellent evening was had by all.
The New Year’s Day Ceilidh was a great day for the Club. My thanks to Shona Brown for organizing the Highland Dancers and Ythan Fiddlers for providing the music. Thanks also to Iain Campbell, Kevin & Shona Reid and Sandra Brockie for helping on the day in my absence. The annual appearance of Ellon Pipe Band always tugs at the heart strings.
Finally, all this doesn’t happen without a team behind me. Thanks to Sandra who is always on hand with her expert knowledge and willingness to help. My thanks to Martyn and his staff for being so accommodating and helpful. Finally, my thanks to Darrall for serving up some wonderful meals.
If anyone has and views on what type of entertainment we should be providing, please do not hesitate to pass it on to a Club Council Member or write it in the Suggestion Book.
This concludes my A.G.M. report.
