Match & Handicap Report (2017) for AGM 2018
A brief look back at 2017 from a Match and
- Firstly I’d like to express my appreciation to the
greenkeeping staff for managing to keep the course playable as much as possible during a very wet season especially from mid-summer onwards enabling the completion of all competitions generally on
schedule with only 1 or 2 matches throughout the season requiring the M&H committee’s red pen. Please remember it is the responsibility of both parties to arrange matches and the appropriate
tournament official should be contacted if you are having problems arranging your match prior to the date the match has to be played by. If the appropriate tournament officer is not contacted prior
to the due by date of play then both parties will be disqualified.
- All opens were played on their allotted dates and were
generally well supported except the Buchan Hotel Open on Sat 27th of May. I blame this on Aberdeen Football Club as the date clashed with the Scottish Cup Final in which they lost to
Celtic, we’ll try to avoid this date in the future. Thanks to all who took part as this is a valuable revenue stream for the club.
- Congratulations to all competition winners in 2017 especially
our club champions, Doug Smith handicap champion (winner of the Thomson Trophy) and scratch champion Adam Dunton (winner of the Herrington Trophy). Best of luck to them both assuming they can
play in the champion of champions next year.
- We were represented in the Abercrombie Trophy and the
Inverurie Rosebowl this year unfortunately without winning any silverware. My thanks got to John Godward for organising the teams and to all who competed and here’s to better fortunes in the upcoming
season. I will be looking for someone to take on the organisation of the teams for 2018 as unfortunately I don’t think John is going to be available.
- We will continue with 9 hole counting competitions for
Wednesday evenings during April and September to enable more people to enjoy a competitive midweek round of golf before and after the lighter evenings. These may be extended if they prove
Preparations are underway for season
- As usual entry sheets for club competitions in 2018 will be on
the board in the back lobby. Please feel free to put your names down.
- Now that the membership for 2018 is known the annual handicap
review is pending. It will be completed between now and start of season. The Club V1 system produces analysis and recommendations regarding selected players handicaps. Any changes are
at the discretion of Match and Handicap.
Traditionally I can’t finish without a special
thank you to the match and handicap team – Iain Campbell, Duncan Castles, Eric Brockie, Mike Keith, Mike Morrice, Neil Whyte, Stuart Farquhar, Norman Bruce and also Sandra Brockie as an
associate member who sometimes has to sort out any unresolved issues from the weekend on an already very busy Monday morning. All your efforts, support and advice are all very much appreciated
without which club competitions would not run as smoothly as they do, I’m very grateful to you all.
If anybody else would like to help out please feel free to get in touch
all help greatly appreciated.
Finally, enjoy your golf in 2018. Play well, and
if it does not go to plan be patient and courteous. Relax and let Match and Handicap worry about your handicap. Golf is supposed to be therapeutic and fun. Best of luck, have a good season and
hopefully the sun will shine on us all!
