The Burns Supper was held on 22nd January. It was poorly attended with only 38 tickets sold. Despite this the evening was very enjoyable. My thanks to all the participants who made the night a great success.
The 2017 Burns Night will be held on Saturday, 21st January. This will take the form of a Theme night with a 3 Course Meal and Jim Leask has agreed to address the haggis. Entertainment will be provided by the Ythan Fiddlers.
The Quiz night is still fairly popular but lacking in numbers occasionally.
Valentine’s Night was a great success. My thanks to Darrall for providing an excellent meal.
On 27th February we had a Breaknight Comedy night which was a huge success with 121 attending. We received many favourable comments regarding this so we decided to hold another one in October. However, when I tried to book it, I was told by the organizer that he would not be returning to McDonald Golf Club as he made far more money by holding this type of night at the Victoria Hall. I tried to organize another type of Comedy Night but there was a very poor response from Members and I had to cancel it.
March saw the start of the Social Mixed Greensomes. These run from March to October, weather permitting. They continue to be very popular with an average of 24 having a meal afterwards. Thanks to my husband for providing the prizes.
On the opening night of the golf season we held an Italian Night. Comments on the meal were generally good and about 50 attended.
In May we had a Tribute Night featuring Abbamania. This was very successful with 74 attending. In September we held another Tribute Night featuring the Jersey Tones and again it was very successful with 102 attending. In general, these Tribute Nights appear to be a great success and I hope my successor continues with them.
Coming towards the end of 2016, we had the Children’s Christmas Party. Lisa Lollipop provided the entertainment. She is excellent with the kids and I have booked her again for next year. Darrall provided excellent food for the kids.
The Christmas Party on 10th December was a great success with 69 attending. A vast improvement on last year when only 24 attended. I think the change in format for this event proved successful.
The Hogmanay Party was again very successful with 75 attending. An excellent evening was had by all.
The New Year Day Ceilidh was a great day for the Club with over 130 people attending. My thanks to Shona Brown for organizing the Highland Dancers. Thanks also the Wattie Gill on the ‘moothie’ and the Ythan Fiddlers for providing the music. The annual appearance of Ellon Pipe Band always tugs at the heart strings.
Finally, all this doesn’t happen without a team behind me. Firstly thanks to my husband who always gives of his time and patience (Sometimes) with all the advertising posters, tickets etc. and for typing up all my reports including this one. Thanks also to Sandra who is always on hand with her expert knowledge and willingness to help. My thanks to Andrew and his staff for being so accommodating and helpful. Finally, my thanks to Darrall who is now getting into my ways of thinking and for serving up some wonderful meals.
My present term of office as Social Convener has now come to an end. This is my third spell as Social Convener. I have thoroughly enjoyed my three years in this post and at this point I would like to thank the Club Council for their support during this time. I wish my successor well for the future and hope the Membership will give her all the support he or she deserves.
If anyone has and views on what type of entertainment we should be providing, please do not hesitate to pass it on to a Club Council Member or write it in the Suggestion Book.
This concludes my A.G.M. report.
