LADIES REPORT – For AGM, February 2017
Our 2016 season started in March with our Annual Quiz night to which ladies from local clubs are invited along. A great night was had by all with £200 going to club funds.
Our Coffee Morning in April was well attended and thanks go to all the exhibitors and Ythan Bakery for their generous discount on the butteries and scones. £325 went to club funds.
The golfing season was marred again by a constant supply of rain but this did not deter our loyal band of ladies who turn up for both Tuesday’s and weekend competitions.
The Ruby Milne Spring Tournament on 8th May was also hampered by bad weather. Congratulations go to Fiona Campbell (Scratch), Mandy Roger (Silver) & Lorna Cockburn (Bronze) divisions.
Joan Forbes and Amanda Farquhar won our qualifier of the Coronation Fours and progressed to the Regional Finals at Strathmore Golf Club. There were 91 pairings and they finished in 7th place – congratulations girls.
The Golf Foundation Brooch recipient this year was Sandra Low.
The Costcutters Ladies Open was held on 11th June with 34 ladies taking part. The weather was reasonable for a change and a profit of £463.67 was given to club funds. Nicola Fraser triumphed in the Silver Section and Yvonne Carr in the Bronze.
The Championships on 25th June saw Fiona Campbell pick up the title of Ladies Club Champion. Lorna Cockburn was the winner of the Margaret Morgan Trophy and congratulations go to both of these ladies.
Our ND Testing Greensomes Open was held on 15th July with the numbers again down on previous years. Dot Mackinnon and Anne Bowman picked up first prize and a profit of £160 was given to club funds.
Congratulations also go to Nicola Fraser who triumphed in the Craighall Rosebowl Final on 17th July.
The Annual Pro Am on 29th July proved very successful and there was a great buzz about the clubhouse. Three ladies teams took part and Colin Grant and his committee are to be congratulated for all their efforts in keeping this event alive.
The Breakthrough Breast Cancer Brooch was won by Fiona Campbell this year and a donation of £75 was given to this very worthy cause.
Our Medal Final winners were Shona Reid in the Silver Division and Lorna Cockburn in the Bronze.
Our Stableford Final winners were Shona Reid in the Silver Division and Cara Low in the Bronze.
Our final event of the year was the Ladies Christmas Dinner which is attended both by golfers and Social Members alike. 61 ladies were in attendance and a profit of £343 was given to club funds.
Throughout the year the ladies section has had representation in the Robertson Trophy & Bennachie League albeit without success. Several ladies have taken part in the County Competitions and we are delighted that the ladies will remain in Division 1 for the 5th year in a row.
The Buchan Seniors events were also blighted with some bad weather and we can only hope that the new season will bring plentiful sunshine!
Our fundraising efforts with the Rag Bag Collections continue to bring much needed funds to the club and the total raised to date is £3,647.60. Thanks go to all who have contributed and keep up the good work.
It is with sadness we report the passing of Anna Morrison a former member of the ladies section and Peter Davidson (husband of Ethel).
A huge vote of thanks must go to the following people:-
Derek Ritchie of Costcutters and Pat Fox of ND Testing for their Sponsorship of the respective Opens. Unfortunately, as Derek Ritchie has given up Costcutters in Ellon he will no longer be continuing with his Sponsorship but we are indebted to George & Moira Ironside who have kindly agreed to sponsor this year’s event.
To Bill and his green-keeping staff. Whom without their dedication we would not have such a great course. We look forward to the start of the new season.
To Darrall and his staff in the kitchen for keeping us supplied with his delights on the food front and Andrew and his staff for keeping us nourished on the refreshments side. Please continue to come along and support this side of our club.
To Sandy and Andrea in the Professional Shop for keeping us supplied with all our golfing essentials.
To Joan Forbes who stepped down as Ladies Secretary after 6 years. Enjoy your retirement!
To my committee for all your support and assistance at all of our events and all the ladies who turn up to support them.
And finally to George Ironside and Sandra Brockie in the office, the back bones of the club and to whom we are all indebted.
