Junior membership is still on a downward trend this not only applies to our club, other clubs within the area are also experience this.
The Pennant League District Junior convenors meeting for the 2017 season was held at Hazlehead Golf Club in November 2016, concerns were raised regarding the downward trend in juniors in all Clubs.
There doesn’t seem to be any fast fix solution to this problem, although we as a Club are looking into ways to try and improve our own situation more of this later.
Junior Medal day Thursday averages about 10 playing very poor considering how many juniors with handicaps in the section.
24th April, First match in the Pennant League at home against Peterhead winning 4 matches to 1.
8th May, the Junior Pennant Team away match against Aboyne unfortunately loosing 4 matches to 1 win.
22nd May, Our second match away to Peterhead loosing 3 matches to 2 wins.
29th May, Home match against Aboyne we lost 3 matches to 2.
All of the matches played in May were close but with lack of numbers being available we had to forfeit some of the matches.
Next season we are giving more advance notice regarding the matches to hopefully make sure this problem does not arise?
-serif;">This result ended our Pennant matches won 1 lost 3 unfortunately not enough to get through to the play offs. Thanks to Alan Kerr for helping.
I must thank the parents of the boys for helping to transport them to the away matches.
The Felicity Trophy, We played our first match at home to Duff House finishing with a 4 all draw.
The return match at Duff House we lost the match
This ended our Felicity involvement for this year.
11 June, Rotary Junior Open took place with numbers down only 12 Home players & 14 Visitor Players. Even although this is an Order of Merit Open.

31st July, Lewis Watt represented the Club in the Hector Dey Trophy at Inverallochy finishing 6th well done Lewis.
31st July, The Paul Lawrie Flag Event was held at the Club, numbers considerably down from previous years with only 12 in the stableford 26 in the flag event Michael MacDougal of the Paul Lawrie Foundation stated two events had already been cancelled due to lack of numbers this is a worrying trend if this continues in junior golf.
This year’s Junior Club Champion is Cameron Gray his match against Andrew Yule was played in the right spirit with both boys playing excellent golf and congratulating each other when good shots were made. I must congratulate them on playing an excellent match it was a pleasure refereeing this match.
3rd Final July Off the Tee Trophy North Final was played at Inverallochy. We got a bye in the morning semi-final against Peterhead because they couldn’t raise a team of 4 juniors.
The afternoon Final was against Cruden Bay our first team Jed Mutch & Lewis Watt lost by 8 holes second team Jamie Smith & Ross Whyte was all square Cruden Bay won by 8 holes. Both teams enjoyed playing.
Clubgolf continues to be successful due to the dedication of the coaches and the organisation of Mike Keith. The number of children progressing from clubgolf to the junior section has not been as many as we had hoped for this has been highlighted in previous years.
28th Aug, Andrew Yule represented club in the Spence Trophy qualifier at Inverallochy unfortunately he did not qualify for the next round of the competition.
As I had stated before junior turnout for medals is very poor and junior membership likewise, with this in mind the club had to address this, a working party was formed tasked to come up with ideas one of which was meeting with parents and juniors. 18th Sept a meeting was arranged with all concerned, it was encouraging to have 34 attending and giving their views.
As was stated on the night it may not be possible to implement all suggestions, they have been taken on board and will be worked through to see what is feasible. We will keep everybody informed regarding the outcome of any changes.
One of the concerns raised was the Thursday Medal clashed with football training, after consultation with the junior section, the club for next year has decided to move the medal to a Friday, for a trial period of one year to see if this will increase junior turnout.
This will have no bearing on Clubgolf which will remain on Thursday.
Under 12 years Juvenile Membership is free for 2017 and Junior Membership fee is frozen for 2017.
I personally would like to thank members who have continued to sponsor Junior Medals last year and have continued doing so this year, on behalf of the junior’s thanks.
I would like to thank Alan Kerr for the time and effort he puts into helping the junior section. Sandra Brockie what can one say other thank a very big thank you.
